SAWS Mission Statement and Usage Guidelines

Our current Mission Statement was approved by the SAWS Board of Directors in May 2026 and is as follows:

We foster the art, craft and tradition of woodworking by bringing makers, artisans and enthusiasts together in an inclusive community to share skills, inspire creativity and continually elevate the level of craftsmanship.

Our Mission Statement defines the society’s core purpose by clearly expressing what we do, who we serve and how we do so. It sets the standard for our ongoing actions and intentions, while also helping internal and external people understand what we are all about.

This is SAWS one and only Mission Statement and it replaces all previous versions.

1)       The Mission Statement cannot be modified in any way without pre-approval from the SAWS Board, except as noted in item 2) below.

2)       If the context requires doing so, the words “We foster” can be replaced with the words “SAWS fosters”.

3)       Whenever it is quoted, the above statement should be clearly identified as the SAWS Mission or SAWS Mission Statement.

4)       Appropriate places to publish the Mission Statement include, but are not necessarily limited to SAWS:

  • Marketing collateral

  • Newsletter

  • Facebook and Instagram business profile pages

  • Policy and procedure documents

  • Grant and sponsorship applications

5)       The marketing tagline “Where Woodworkers Learn” can be used whenever appropriate. However, this tagline must not be described as nor implied to be the SAWS Mission.
