2011 Fine Works in Wood Exhibition

The Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society invites you to their show "Fine Works in Wood". SAWS is a non-profit society dedicated to encouraging excellence in woodworking.


The Exhibition will be held in the public area of Southcentre Mall September 9 through 25 during regular mall times. Everyone is invited to drop by and see the works. Members will be present to answer questions.

The first meeting of the new season has been scheduled for 7:00 pm Wednesday, September 21, 2011 in the Scarboro Community Centre Hall. Members have been notified by e-mail with the details.

June 2011 - Annual General Meeting

The Annual General Meeting is always informative and enjoyable. The meeting will start at 9 a.m. and extend into the afternoon.

On the program are hands-on sessions on veneering and inlay, the business part of the AGM, and lunch will be provided.

So come on down and participate in the activities, and network with your fellow woodworkers before the summer break. Bring along any tools you would like to sell or exchange, and any projects to share or discuss.

The meeting will be held at John's shop and a map will be included in the June Newsletter mailed to all members.

April 2011 Meeting

Lost Arts Woodshop /Village Woodsmith.
Nanton Lancaster Museum

Saturday April 16, 2011

We are going to the Lost Arts Woodshop /Village Woodsmith. Mike Hartigan is the owner of these two businesses. He builds wooden wheels and also runs a custom wood moulding/doorshop.

Then after that tour we are going to the Nanton Lancaster Museum,
Bomber Command Museum, Nanton, Alberta. John Morel and Andy Lockhart were involved in building a wooden bomb and they are rebuilding a Tiger Moth plane. We will have a guided tour and then there will be time to explore.

The exact details will be forwarded to all members later this week.

Canadian Woodworking Schools

The March meeting's topic is to be an examination of Canadian woodworking Schools. We will most likely have a few students who have attended four different schools in Western Canada with some of the projects they built during that time and then have some discussion and Q and A.
