Exhibition 2005
22nd of August 2005
For 22 years, the Southern Alberta Woodworkers Society - SAWS, has been delighting audiences with exhibitions of fine woodworking. This year's collection, featuring 24 woodworkers presenting 36 New Works in Wood is no exception. These fine pieces range from sculptural forms to practical works of art. Some pieces are more traditional; others are at the leading edge of the craft. In all cases, the work was created by devoted woodworkers who take great pride and pleasure in their craft.
From amateurs to seasoned professionals, these woodworkers represent diverse styles and unique approaches to both design and execution. Wood selections vary from recycled through local woods and an assortment of exotic species.
Works are chosen using a two-tiered selection process. First, a Standards Committe reviews works to ensure quality of craftsmanship, suitability of materials, and perfection of finish. Second, a three member independent jury carefully judges the entries for originality, design, material, craftsmanship, artistic merit and presentation.
As with previous SAWS exhibitions, this collection represents some of the finest woodworking in the nation.
